God’s discipline

Recently, I have heard a series of teachings on exile, e.g. the history, the reason, the outcomes etc. Apart from being very informative, my mind has been renewed about discipline.

During the teachings this question was asked; was exile punishment & judgment or disciple & mercy? Using scriptures (Jeremiah 33 & Ezekiel 36) the conclusion to that question was discipline & mercy.

As Christians we should expect discipline because we are God’s children and he loves us (Hebrews 12 v 1- 11). The bible even tells us to ‘endure hardship as discipline’ (Hebrews 12 v 7). The result of God’s discipline if we submit to His correction ‘produces a harvest of righteousness and peace’, and enables us to ’share in his holiness’. How great is that! That God desires for us to share in his holiness so he loving corrects us! Amazing! He is the greatest Dad ever.

In the last session, it was stated that God’s wrath is within boundaries. Think about that, there is a beginning and an end. That His wrath has a purpose to cause a heart response within us so that the above may happen. His discipline is pure grace & mercy because as a Father, God wants to ensure that His children will be His and remain with Him. How amazing is that! What a loving Dad!
