The walls are down & the gates are burnt

When Nehemiah heard that the walls were down and the gates were burnt in Jerusalem, he wept and cried out. Nehemiah felt the pain of God’s chosen city being in ruins. The walls of this nation are down and the gates are burnt, but do I grieve? Is there a pain that arises from within?

A challenge has come to us to embrace the pain of the nation. William Wilberforce took up that challenge by embracing, even pursuing, the pain of slavery. He endured great opposition and it cost him much, including his health. But the abolition of slavery burned within him and so he remained steadast to the cause.

A call has gone out to rebuild the walls of this nation, and to stand in the gap. The walls can not be rebuilt in a day. Therefore, it wll take endurance and strength to push through for that call. Am I willing to lay it all down, to be poured out as a drink offering no matter what? Will I embrace the burden of the nation? Will I hear God’s cry to stand and rebuild? The choice is mine. It is also yours. So, let us accept the call!

Wow. Good writing, great challenge. I often wonder why we don’t weep mourn and wail for the our country (which for me is the U.S.) and our world. Father God longs to see nations turn to him. He has promised those as our inheritance. We must cry out for the lost, we must pursue the battle that He has called each of us to.
